Cuyuna Cove Cabins - a cozy tiny home experience in Crosby, Minnesota

If you are looking for a serene place to relax and escape from the stresses of day-to-day life, Cuyuna Cove is the place no matter what season. There are five beautiful tiny cabins and five glamping tents available to stay on this 3-acre property right on the edge of town in Crosby, Minnesota. On this trip, we stayed in the June Cabin for a few nights, and we were so impressed with how peaceful, luxurious, and well thought out they made 215 sq feet feel!

THE OWNERS

It’s evident that Kelsey and Chris have put their heart and soul into the Cuyuna Cove property. They are the type of 5-star hosts who genuinely care about their guest’s experiences and have made us feel incredibly welcome during each of the stays we have been fortunate to have in their cabins and tents. You can read more about their story HERE

Their Property Manager Sarah is also very kind and thoughtful, quick with communication, and she gave us great suggestions for the area.

THE SPACE

Whether you are looking to take a peaceful self-care trip, a romantic couple’s getaway, or just want to partake in the many outdoor adventure opportunities in the area, you will find the Cuyuna Cove cabins to be just what you needed. We found the cabin to be thoughtfully designed, private, and cozy. It was easy to settle in quickly after we arrived. The back deck faces South, so the light beautifully filled the space throughout the day. There are luxurious spa-like touches in the bathroom, a well-equipped kitchen for such a tiny space, stunning floor-to-ceiling windows with relaxing views, a desk should you need to work remotely, and a comfortable bed to climb into at the end of the day.

We felt at home while also feeling fully immersed in the beauty of the outdoors. The view through the giant windows over the water, with the lights twinkling through the trees at night, is magical. The lights shut off automatically around 10, and then we slept with the curtains open and looked at the stars. One night it stormed, and we loved lying there watching the lighting.

The Kitchen

The kitchen is the perfect size for the tiny cabin space. I recommend bringing a cooler if you plan to cook multiple meals during your stay, or like having ice, as the fridge is mini-sized and fills up quickly. Coffee lovers will love the french press! We grilled most of our meals on the deck, but there is also a 2-burner electric stovetop inside and plenty of other amenities and cooking items in the kitchen:

  • Coffee, french press, hot water kettle, a wine opener, and a bottle opener

  • Mini-fridge, a 2 burner electric stovetop, microwave, toaster, and grill utensils for the gas Weber grill on the deck

  • Basic kitchen utensils: pot, pan, cups, bowls, plates, silverware, a beautiful wooden salad bowl, a cutting board and a couple of knives, coffee mugs, salt/pepper, etc.

  • Collapsable s’mores sticks and a LED lantern for the fire pits

The Deck & Gas Grill

The deck is the perfect place to begin your day with a coffee and end your day with a cocktail or favorite beverage in hand. Typically when we visit Crosby, we are on the go and eat most of our meals in town, but we didn’t care to leave the cabin and loved grilling our meals and hanging out on the deck instead.

The Bathroom

The shower is the main character of the bathroom! Great water pressure, smooth stones under your feet, and fab eco-friendly shower products from Public Goods. It’s the best spot to wash the day away with your favorite shower beverage.

  • Pro Tip: At night, turn the lights off with the exception of the salt lamp, which will give you the most relaxing warm glow. Play your favorite chill cabin playlist from your phone, or bring along a portable speaker. They have a great essential oil room spray to complete your spa-like experience.

There is a sliding wooden door for the bathroom and open ceiling space with the rest of the cabin. It’s worth noting that due to the small space, the sink is in the kitchen. There is a little shelf to set a few things on under the mirror, and a blow dryer should you need one. It’s not the kind of bathroom you have a ton of space to do your hair and makeup in, but when staying here it feels so good just to be makeup and fuss-free.

Community Firepits

There are two nice communal fire pit spaces with Adirondack chairs and picnic tables by the pond. They have pre-split wood conveniently located on the property in $5 bundles.

The Acro Deluxe Cabin is the only cabin of the five that has a private fireplace. (Acro also has a seasonal private outdoor shower, too!).

At night, grab your s’mores sticks and lighter from the cabin, and follow the lights down the path. The picnic tables are great for grabbing lunch to go from town and eating outside.

Bike Storage & Wash Station

Each cabin has an outdoor bike storage locker. We didn't use it this trip, but it can hold three bikes or equipment for various outdoor activities such as paddle boarding or snowshoeing. Down the path by the glamping tents, you’ll find a great station to wash the red Cuyuna dirt off your bike. They've thought of it all!

THINGS TO NOTE

  • The Sauna - they have built a new sauna on the property, and we can’t wait to experience it during a cold winter stay. The sauna is included with your stay!

  • Paddleboards & Snowshoes - also included with your stay!

  • Parking - there is one designated parking spot per cabin and tent. There is no room for you to bring a trailer or boat, FYI.

  • The Check-in process is super easy - all you need is your code, and you're in!

  • Bug Spray - while we didn’t find the mosquitos bad during our stay, it doesn’t hurt to pack some bug spray and check for ticks, as you are in the woods after all.

  • Outside lights - the cute string lights turn on closer to dusk on the path to the firepits. Really helpful for seeing where you are going. They turn off around 10 pm when quiet hours begin, so don’t worry about light shining in if you plan on sleeping with the shades open at night.

  • Where to put your stuff - there is space under the bed to put your suitcase or bags, hangers to hang your coat, and a mat to put your shoes on so you don’t trek red dirt into the cabin.

Things to do in Crosby: RESTAURANTS, BARS, COFFEE SHOPS, & Adventures

You can click HERE for my comprehensive blog on Crosby, but I’ve also listed a few of my favorites below. Cuyuna Cove is in a great location! You can ride right onto the trails or into town within a few minutes. It takes just a short 12-15 minutes to walk downtown. Crosby is often referred to as an “adventure town,” and I would highly recommend this area to anyone looking for outdoor biking, hiking, paddle boarding, etc. But don’t let all the mountain bikers you pass in town make you think you can’t enjoy this cute town if you don’t partake in these activities - Crosby has some cute shops and delicious restaurants as well. I have a Crosby guide coming soon, but in the meantime, here fav spots:

  • Red Raven -Love this spot for their coffee, breakfast burritos, brews on tap, bike shop and rentals, and more!

  • Shop Victual - The ice cream here is incredible, and I adore their outdoor sitting area with a fun mural. Their cheese selections are divine, so many cute things to get for gifts, especially for cooking lovers. Plus the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful.

  • Spalding House - Go to this fun dive bar for cheap drinks and Bingo on Sunday nights!

  • Hardware Lounge - Good cocktail spot! Get their smoked margarita - such a fun process and delicious drink!

  • Rafferty’s - Their wood-fired pizzas are delicious, and we especially love their 3 Shrooms pizza. They have a cute rooftop patio as well!

  • Iron Range Eatery - great lunch or dinner spot with a cute outdoor patio area

  • Cuyuna Brewing - cute little brewery in town that also has really good kombucha on tap

Have you been to Cuyuna Cove? If not, put this gem on your list! These tents are perfect for a solo trip, a trip with your significant other, or renting a few tents with a group of friends. They are available mid-May through the beginning of October, and they book up pretty quickly, so plan ahead.

We returned to Cuyuna Cove with some friends to experience their fabulous glamping tents. We had a blast! Check it out below:
